Love this quote from a favorite book

Photobucket
"I used to feel guilty about idle moments.  Time spent splayed out in the lawn chair, staring at the sky, was time "wasted".  A walk in the woods with a friend and her dog, meant that I wouldn't get my aerobic workout for the day.  When Henry, at three, wanted to hear the same story every day for a month, and have the same conversation about it every time, I could not help thinking about the stack of unread library books that was gathering dust in the meantime.  But I have come to believe that all of these activities are essential.  They are what is meant by "nurturing".  As the writer Julia Cameron reminds us, "So much of what we need, so much of what we want, is to be savored, cherished, cared for and cared about.  So much of what is missing is tenderness."  Our children do not need any more possessions to be happy; they need only to feel sure that they possess our hearts, our attention, our acceptance of who they are." -Katrina Kenison

I'm beginning to "quack".....

I made rubber duck cookies for a friend's sister's friend's baby shower (so we're practically family ya know :)). I laughed as I was icing them, because we're all about to "quack" or crack around here!!! Last week we had four snow days, and now they're calling for MORE snow tomorrow. Who is ready for spring???

my favorite guy had a birthday this weekend!! (and my sister-in-law Megan too, happy birthday!)

Gnome cupcakes, snowdrifts and friends

Today was our 3rd snow day in a row (tomorrow is another one). Our friend Sherri invited us over to play games, hang out, and get out of the house for awhile. So, I made some gnome cupcakes (cuz nothing says whose tired of snow days like a bunch of gnomes right??? I don't know, just thought they would be fun :) ). We borrowed Bree's car because it was 4 wheel drive, and set out. We got about 500 hundred feet down our road, and I was in a ditch. Todd came and got us out (only after getting his truck stuck too), and we set out again. We had a fun afternoon visiting with friends, eating Beth's yummy chili and of course, eating gnome cupcakes! Now..what to do tomorrow??? (gnome picks are from www.layercakeshop.com)

Polar Bears and Teenagers......

We had Maddie's birthday party with aunts, uncles and cousins tonight. Maddie knows her mom misses theme birthday parties from years past, so she throws me a bone and gives me a "theme" every year, even at 13 :). In December she said, "I think I'll do a polar bear theme for my birthday Mom." We had polar bear cookies, snowflake cookies, snowflake balloons, etc.. The cousins all loved it, and we had a great time celebrating our new favorite teenager.
